Tiki Barber, Role Model for Conservative Kids

For Christmas I wanted to get my son a giant, seemingly 3D, Fathead sports player poster for this room. There were many player choices. I needed the right one. One that exemplified sports success (hustle and determination) but I wanted the player to be a great role model too. Baseball and Football are my son's favorite sports. I looked at our home town team. I did not find any players who were not already featured on a police blotter. I looked at my favorite teams NY Giants and NY Yankees. For the Giants, Tiki Barbar and Lawrence Taylor were featured. Lawrence Taylor was one of my favorites growing up - but he was no role model. So it was between Tiki Barbar and Derek Jeter. I picked Tiki.

There is no better role model in sports since the late great Lou Gehrig than Tiki Barber.

Tiki was (he retired last week) an unbelievable football player. Tiki was an well informed and very articulate Fox and Friends morning host summer sub (I am sure that Katie Couric was jealous). Tiki Barber retired on his terms with his health and he did it while he was still on top. Tiki always has a welcoming smile. Tiki is a children's book author. Tiki is my son's and my favorite NFL player. Now he moves on to ABC where he will work on Good Morning America, 20/20 and ESPN. I think that GMA and 20/20 will benefit from adding a conservative voice.

Tiki thanks for the great effort. I will miss you as a football player, but I will follow your every word on TV.

Conservative parents help their kids choose the right role models.

Tiki is a great choice! Jeter seems like a good choice also but I have no idea as to his politics. We know that Tiki is conservative.

I am impressed with the thought that went into the picking of a poster. I must confess that I probably wouldn't have thought that deeply about it but I can see the value in doing so. Thanks.

Tiki is a class act indeed. He is articulate, respectful, humble, and he has an amazingly positive, conservative outlook on life. He has never let his celebrity status define him -- nor has he allowed it as justification for his ego to soar.

Funny, but the media doesn't seem to understand Tiki Barber. They seemed to have minimal understanding of his desire to retire now -- at a time when he could still be front and center in the public eye, making millions of dollars, with the general public 'oohing' and 'ahing' over his athletic performance each Sunday afternoon. It is wise, therefore, to make sure as parents, we help guide in the choosing of our children's role models. The media will not choose the same way.

Excellent Post. I do agree with your selection. As a Villanova guy, I would be looking for Brian Westbrook, but he's not listed.

As a side note for the future, if you're interested in making your own fathead you should checkout - Perhaps your son would like a custom wall print of himself or his role model dad ;). Full disclosure, I work for the company.

In either case, I enjoy the blog. Keep up the great work.

Yup, he's a perfect example of conservative values - dumping his pregnant-with-twins wife for a 23 year old blond. He's almost as bad as Newt Gingrich, who gave his wife divorce papers while she was in the hospital with cancer.

Tiki is a great role model for conservative kids - Teach them to care about themselves and screw everyone else. Just like the republican party.

Try again there... Republicans donate 30% more money to charity than democrats. Tell me who cares more again please!
