Slaughtered Goats at a DNC fundraiser?

A Democratic fundraiser sparked a major controversy by using a freshly slaughtered goat to raise money.

The nearly decapitated animal was the centrepiece of a party to celebrate the launch of the new campaign theme, "What would you do to get a Democrat in the White House"

"How about eating still warm intestines uncoiled from the carcass of a freshly slaughtered goat?

Guests at the event were invited to reach inside the goat’s still-warm carcass to eat offal from its stomach.

The GOP condemned the DNC, and said the grotesque "sacrifice" highlighted increasing concerns over the the ugliness of the campaign and the lengths to which the DNC will go to garner votes.

At the event, guests competed to see who could eat the most offal – procured elsewhere and intended to resemble the goat’s intestines – from its stomach.

They also threw knives at targets and pulled live snakes from a pit with their bare hands. (Guns were banned from the event.)

Bill Clinton added topless girls dipping grapes into guests’ mouths to the louche atmosphere.

The International Fund for Animal Welfare said it was "outrageous" that the animal’s death had been used "to drive voter registration".

A spokesperson for the animal welfare group said: "We are always opposed to any senseless killing of an animal and this sounds like a gruesome death. We condemn the DNC's actions. It is stupid and completely unjustified."

Nancy Pelosi describes the '08 campaign as "an adult-rated, fast-paced bloodbath – and enormous fun to boot", adding that it will be "bigger, better and as brutal as ever".

Of course I kid. A respectable group like the DNC led by Howard Dean would never dip so low to garner votes. That is as far fetched as a venerable brand like SONY pulling a stunt like this.

What? Sony actually held a similar event in Athens, Greece to launch the new violent video game God of War II last week.

I guess the DNC and SONY do have something in common. They both contribute to the moral decay of Conservative Kids.

Conservative Kids, Time to Turn in Your Guns?

Guns need to be banned to prevent tragedies like the mass murders at Virginia Tech this week. That’s the opinion of The View and others this week.

I am not a fan of guns. And much to the surprise of you liberals out there who might consider me a right wing conspirator, I do not have a gun or a gun rack. I do not hunt and I do not eat squirrels or possum pie.

Like video games, guns do not a mass murder make. Again mental illness is to be blamed.

The tragedy at VT got the gun control crowd buzzing again. Here is my take in it. We already have fine laws on the books to prevent these events. Virginia Tech is a Gun Free Zone.

Since VT is a gun free zone, Cho Seung-Hui broke the law to commit those heinous crimes. The point. If guns are banned all the good gun carrying citizens will follow the law and turn in their guns. The criminals and the unhinged will not.

Virginia is a conceal and carry state. The College is a Gun Free Zone in that state. So if, a student was packing heat and happened to kill Cho during the shooting spree, he or she would have been a hero and a law breaker.

The system failed those victims on the VT campus. We have background checks before a gun can be purchased. (I agree with tight controls on who can get a gun.) Cho was deemed by the court to be a threat to himself and others. How come this court order did not prevent Cho from purchasing a gun?

Unfortunately, we live in a world of guns. Guns were invented because people are resourceful. If guns completely disappeared from the earth people, would find another way to kill each other. You can not ban hate or mental illness. But what a great world it would be if you could.

Time to Ban Video Games and Clowns?

I am not a fan of violent video games. I limit my kids access to these games as much as a parent can without being overly oppressive.

But let’s get something clear video games do not a mass murder make. Do you think that mental illness may be the cause? I do.

Media Bias in reporting Fred Thompson's Cancer

I first looked at CNN. The headline was positive showcasing remission. (Full Story) The article was factual and positive about Fred Thompson's health and his ability to run. Then of course the last two paragraphs were added to chip away at his credibility just in case he decides to run against CNN's beloved Hillary or Obama.

In 2005, Thompson helped shepherd Chief Justice John Roberts through the Senate confirmation process and, most recently, he raised money for the defense of I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, Vice President Dick Cheney's former chief of staff.
Libby was found guilty in March of lying and obstructing justice during the investigation into who released the identity of then-CIA operative Valerie Plame.

Reuters.com lead with the headline. Possible W. House hopeful Thompson says he has cancer and shows this picture of Fred looking like he is crying. (Link) The objective here is to communicate to the skim / scan reader to think that Fred is dying.

But just in case you read on. They want to make sure you understand that he is no friend of liberals. They never mention that he is for lower taxes.

CBSNews.com led with the headline Fred Thompson Says He Has Cancer. I wish it mentioned remmission. But the article was pretty much straight forward. They did make sure to emphasize that Guiliani and McCain both have cancer, but I guess that is relevant.

ABCNews.com and Time.com were factual and did not try to add liberal spin.

Ridiculopathy.com makes fun of the situation as they endorse Edwards strategic use of cancer for PR and bash Fred's. It is funny unless of course you think cancer not funny.

Fred Thompson Announces Running Mate; Cancer

Fox News interviewed with Fred Thompson today. He announced that he was diagnosed with lymphoma two years ago , but it is in remission. He mentioned that it is the slow growing and non-life threatening kind of lymphoma. (Story)

Fred Thompson is announcing this now to gauge public opinion.

Fred is waiting to hear from us.

We need to let him know that we are not scared of cancer. We are scared of liberalism. We are scared of immigration amnesty. We are petrified of socialized medicine. We are afraid of terrorism.

Fred, Lance Armstrong triumphed many times with cancer. You can too.

Republican Sen. John McCain has battled melanoma, a very aggressive form of skin cancer, and Rudy Giuliani has battled prostate cancer. So it should not be an issue.

In the UK, the Grampian branch of the National Health Service (socialized or should I say socialised medicine agency) decided to stop giving Christian workers holidays for Good Friday and Easter. (Story) It was a move of political correctness. They did not want to offend people of other religions.

A note to Conservative Kids: Sometimes you can get help from an unlikely ally.

Sen John Kerry went to bat for us baseball lovers to block a TV deal that would have made Major League Baseball broadcasts exclusive to satellite TV.

I am a Yankee fan stuck in Reds country. I watch a lot of baseball (mainly the Yanks). Satellite TV been there done that. It's great until it rains. Guess what I like to do when it rains. Yep, watch TV. I tried MLB.TV to watch games on my laptop, but that was a painful experience. DSL is not quite ready for TV.

The lesson to Conservative Kids is that democracy won the day. It was the uproar of fans that got MLB to listen and to change course. So when there is a wrong to be made right call or email your elected official and be heard. And call and email the company making the decision.

Now back to my regularly scheduled loathing of the anti-American Sen John Kerry and the Red Sox.

Liberals Take Chatter Out of Baseball

What is happening to my world? No Santa in stores. Easter Egg hunts are now called scramble egg hunts. The 10 Commandments are being erased from society. Every kid gets the same grades in school. And now this. No Chatter in baseball.

An ugly incident led to the banning of chatter in Cincinnati. Kids can no longer say batter, batter, batter swing batter, batter, batter in Cincinnati. Don't you dare say, rally, rally the pitcher's name is Sally in the Queen City. For God's sake, don't call a batter a broken ladder. You can't say, hey shortstop I have seen quicker hands on a clock or you throw like Mayor Mark Mallory. (See video)

Don't yell to the catcher, you couldn't catch the bird flu in a Cambodian chicken coop. We don't want little Johnny to take his ball and bat and go home crying.

Don't get me wrong, I am not for mean spirited unsportsmanlike talk. But chatter is a part of baseball. It is a part of life. You can not protect kids from the ugliness of life. Kids need to develop a thick skin. The world is tough. Rules to artificially protect a kids self esteem drive me nuts because the kids only have a high self esteem in a fantasy world. Learning to cope in both good and bad situations is what growing up is all about.

Conservative Kids learn what not to do from bad situations if their parents help them understand the situations they encounter.

A liberal friend (yes I do have some) introduced me as a conservative to another liberal. We had some good natured banter back and forth. There was one joke this person said that struck me as odd. He said, "Do you idle your car all day so it's nice an warm when you are ready to head home." I guess he assumed that since I am a conservative I must not care about the environment and I needlessly waste resources.

I grew up in the 70's. The well informed teachers of the day were talking about the world running out of oil. That was 30 years ago. Oh yeah, they were also talking about global cooling too. No oil and global cooling the inconvenient half-truth of the day got our attention. So we were taught to conserve energy. There was also a long draught period in New Jersey when I was younger. We had to conserve water - If its yellow let it mellow. But if it is brown, flush it down.
So I am familiar with conservation. Well I must admit that I flush every time and wash my hands. I also turn out lights that are on when not needed.

Just because Conservative Kids do not believe that global warming is caused by humans does not mean that we give polluters a free pass and waste costly resources.

The same day that I had this conversation, I got this info in an email (author unknown).

WASHINGTON — Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich equated bilingual education Saturday with "the language of living in a ghetto" and mocked requirements that ballots be printed in multiple languages.

"The government should quit mandating that various documents be printed in any one of 700 languages depending on who randomly shows up" to vote, said Gingrich, who is considering seeking the Republican presidential nomination in 2008. He made the comments in a speech to the National Federation of Rebulican Women.

"The American people believe English should be the official language of the government. ... We should replace bilingual education with immersion in English so people learn the common language of the country and they learn the language of prosperity, not the language of living in a ghetto," Gingrich said to cheers from the crowd of more than 100.

"Citizenship requires passing a test on American history in English. If that's true, then we do not have to create ballots in any language except English," he said. nd="5" style="font-size:85%;">In the past, Gingrich has supported making English the nation's official language. He has also said all American children should learn English and that other languages should be secondary in schools.

In 1995, for example, he said bilingualism poses "long term dangers to the fabric of our nation" and that "allowing bilingualism to continue to grow is very dangerous."

Bilingual programs teach students reading, arithmetic and other basic skills in their native language so they do not fall behind while mastering English.

On voting, federal law requires districts with large populations of non-English speakers to print ballots in multiple languages.

No Chairs in Conservative Kids Classroom

Presidential hopeful Huckabee gave a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference earlier this month. Among his rambling speech he told a story that fits the theme of this blog for raising conservative kids.

Since a politician told this story, I am not sure how true it is, but the message is good.

I have a friend who's a schoolteacher at the Robinson High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. Her name is Martha Cothren. She's a social studies teacher and a coach on the side. Back in September of 2005, on the first day of school, Martha Cothren did something that I'll never forget. Martha, on the first day of school, with permission of the school superintendent, the principal and the building supervisor, took all of the desks out of the classroom.
The kids came into first period, they walked in, there were no desks. They obviously looked around and said, "Ms. Cothren, where's our desk?" And she said, "You can't have a desk until you tell me how you earn them."
They thought, "Well, maybe it's our grades."
"No," she said.
"Maybe it's our behavior."
And she told them, "No, it's not even your behavior."
And so they came and went in the first period, still no desks in the classroom. Second period, same thing. Third period. By early afternoon television news crews had gathered in Ms. Cothren's class to find out about this crazy teacher who had taken all the desks out of the classroom. The last period of the day, Martha Cothren gathered her class. They were at this time sitting on the floor around the sides of the room. And she says, "Throughout the day no one has really understood how you earn the desks that sit in this classroom ordinarily." She said, "Now I'm going to tell you."

Martha Cothren went over to the door of her classroom and opened it, and as she did 27 U.S. veterans, wearing their uniforms, walked into that classroom, each one carrying a school desk. And they placed those school desks in rows, and then they stood along the wall. And by the time they had finished placing those desks, those kids for the first time I think perhaps in their lives understood how they earned those desks.

Martha said, "You don't have to earn those desks. These guys did it for you. They put them out there for you, but it's up to you to sit here responsibly to learn, to be good students and good citizens, because they paid a price for you to have that desk, and don't ever forget it."

My friend, I think sometimes we forget that the freedoms that we have are freedoms not because of celebrities. The freedoms are because of ordinary people who did extraordinary things, who loved this country more than life itself, and who not only earned a school desk for a kid at the Robinson High School in Little Rock, but who earned a seat for you and me to enjoy this great land we call home, this wonderful nation that we better love enough to protect and preserve with the kind of conservative, solid values and principles that made us a great nation.

Famous People with ADHD Provide Hope

My hardworking grandfather worked the fields of the farm he owned from 5:30am to 1:30p. Then he jumped on a bus headed to Philadelphia to go to his job in a book bindery to work a shift there. I am not sure how he did it.

I was a city boy according to grandfather. But every summer, I would work on the farm for a week or two. The pay was terrible, the days were long and it was completely voluntary. I imposed this self torture to be with the grandparents I loved so very much. My parents and my friends thought I was crazy. I did it every summer from age 12 to age 17.

The days I worked the farm were the most exhausting days of my life. I would get up at 5:30a to cut, wash and pack squash. After a quick breakfast break, we would go out into the fields and pick peppers and tomatoes and cut eggplant and butternut squash. Then we would load the truck for market. We would typically end the day at 5:30p. Eat dinner. Play in the yard and be sleeping by 8:30p so we could do it again the next day.

I remember on brutally hot day. My cousin Tony and I were in a butternut squash field slaving away. We decided that we needed a quick break after working for 2 straight hours. Wouldn't you know that that is when my grandfather came to check on us. He yelled and called us good for nothing, lazy bastards before he drove off mad in a cloud of dust.

I was so mad, but not at him. I was mad at myself for letting the man I admired down. Not long after, at the farmers market, I was unloading the truck when I overheard my grandfather talking to his farming buddies. He was talking with pride about his hardworking city boy grandson. The next time he called me a lazy good for nothing. I just smiled to myself.

My son has ADD/ADHD. Many kids with ADD / ADHD are label as stupid and lazy. I tried every trick in the book to motivate him. Money. Stickers. Hugs. All with no results. I admittedly and repeatedly have tried my grandfathers method and called my son out as a lazy good for nothing. This does not work either. Nothing seems to motivate my son. I told to lower my expectations. I was told that you do not have to be a hard working rich man to be happy. I was told to just let him be what he is going to be. I was going to take this advice until I had a chance meeting with a man who is an expert in ADD/ADHD

This man has ADD/ADHD. This man had a mother who 30 years ago realized that her son needed different learning strategies to succeed. He is now a successful businessman on the verge of making it really big with an i-learning product develop for ADD/ADHD kids. This man is teaching my that my son is not stupid and lazy and to not give up on him.

He told me that my son has a gift, the gift to think differently. He then went on to tell me that many famous people in the world had ADD/ADHD. Winston Churchill failed 6th grade. Thomas Edison's teachers said he was too stupid to learn anything. Tolstoy failed out of college. Einstein did not talk until four and did not read until seven. Lincoln and Kennedy had ADD/ADHD. He also told me that 40% of people in jail have ADD / ADHD.

Kids with ADHD have low self-esteem and do not feel like they fit into the world. This list of people shows that kids with ADD/ADHD can not only fit in, but can also define the world. Parents just need to steer them in the right direction.

I admire so many people on the list. I would love to admire my son one day.

Three Pigs and a Puppy Die

In Britain, a school decided to change the 150-year-old Three Little Pigs story to something less offensive to Muslims. (Story) The Koran states that Muslims cannot eat or touch pigs. In their infinite wisdom the school district replaced the three pigs with three puppies. Here was their first attempt.

Once upon a time, there were three little puppies living with their mum (this is Britain). They decided to leave their mum to make it in the big world. The youngest was full of hate toward Jews, Christians Hindus, Buddhists, atheists, Americans, capitalists, pigs and other Muslims that did not share his radical puppy beliefs.

This young puppy did not have much optimism, self-esteem or drive so he built a modest medieval doghouse made of mud and straw. His brothers opted for more substantial housing further from home in mountain caves in the tribal territories of Pakistan.

One day a big bad wolf came to the mud and straw house of the youngest puppy and knocked on the door. "Let me in," the wolf yelled, “or I will huff and puff and I will blow your house down.” The radical puppy opened the door and said praise Allah and blew up himself and the wolf. The End.

There is a war going on against our culture. The enemies are radical Islam, the ACLU, secular progressives and good people who are paralyzed by political correctness.

Victims in the war include Christmas, George Washington and Abe Lincoln, the Ten Commandments, and now the three pigs. Rest in peace.

We need to fight this to preserve our great nation for our Conservative Kids.

Actually, to be fair, Islamic leaders in the British community condemned the politically correct move to change pigs to puppies as misguided and said decisions like this were turning Muslims into 'misfits' in society.

I hate to tell you Mr. British spineless Islamic leader - The radical faction of your religion is turning Muslims into misfits. Denounce radical Islam, not scared Christians who think that they need to appease the aggressor by changing our culture.

It was one of those in-the-shower brainstorms for pollster John Zogby:Ronald Reagan, at 28 percent, FDR at 26 percent, JFK at 21 percent, Abraham Lincoln at 16 percent, and just 6 percent for George Washington. And who's viewed as most Reaganesque? Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton. She also grabs the FDR and Washington mantle but falls far short of upstart Sen. Barack Obama for the JFK title. Let's see which past A-list president voters wish they could put in the Oval Office to fix the nation and which of the major 2008 presidential hopefuls best matches that pick. Drumroll, please. In order:

Zogby says there are several messages from his just completed poll, provided exclusively to Whispers. Most obvious: If voters want a Reaganesque or Rooseveltian firm hand and vision in the White House, then Clinton looks like a good bet. But if they prefer the inspiration of JFK and Lincoln, then Obama's their guy. "It looks like youthful vigor has the best crossover appeal," says Zogby. It's not so clear on the GOP side. Only Rudy Giuliani scores well, seen as the most Lincoln-like and beating Sen. John McCain in every "most like" category. Ex-Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney ranks last in all but one. Zogby sees a biblical race between Jeremiah and Moses in how some major themes play out. "Moses had a plan to get to the Promised Land, and for Jeremiah the sky was falling." Who wins? "Hopefulness is the key."

Since that time, Fred Thompson has been the most popular topic on my site. It was a slow build but traffic with people looking for info on Fred Thompson has exploded ever since.

I linked to small bloggers who were talking about Fred. Those combined voices of small bloggers resonated very loud.

Bill Frist (VOLPAC) heard the call and he has Fred's ear.

I believe that future of Conservative Kids will be so much brighter with Fred Thompson as the leader. The ultra liberal Obama and the deceitful, cold, selfish power hungry politician Clinton will not lead this country in a positive direction.

Teacher Teaches Capitalism Burns at Stake.

My last post got me thinking about the most memorable teacher I ever had.

In sixth grade, I had Mrs. Steele. She taught the requisite broad spectrum of subjects like math, English, social studies, etc. But she also taught capitalism.

Mrs. Steele created a market economy in her class. She printed Steele dollars. She gave everyone a job and a base salary. She also gave us the opportunity to earn more dollars by providing a meaningful service to the class. This was strictly optional. Like any real world economy, some people worked harder than others and soon a social class structure emerged.

To earn extra money, I approached Mrs. Steele with an idea to start a class newspaper. She as delighted and was supportive. I got started right away. I covered the news of the class; Kickball highlights. The much anticipated announcement of the dodgeball MVP. I listed upcoming events. I acknowledged the personal achievements of class members. I had a horoscope. I listed birthdays.

Mrs. Steele helped me with story ideas and editing. She also gave me supplies - the mimeograph paper. It is easy to make money when the cost of goods is zero. She also strongly encouraged everyone to buy my paper. This endeavor added $1,000 per week to my salary.

I also made a lot of money tutoring kids in Math.

Every last Friday in the month was market day. Kids would bring in unwanted toys and Mrs. Steele would bring in candy, baseball cards and some other small things she bought. The stuff Mrs. Steele brought in was sold at a fixed price. All the other stuff went to auction and went to the highest bidder. It was always quite exciting.

I never bought anything. I set a goal to have $100,000 at the end of the school year. My buddy and I had a secret competition to be the richest kid in the class. I ended up exceeding my goal and winning. I'm still winning thanks to Mrs. Steele.

If Mrs Steele taught capitalism in school today, she would be burned at the stake. The liberals and Psychologists like Doctor Ablow (or Dr. AimLow as I like to call him) would go on the TODAY show and call Mrs. Steele out and tell her that she is hurting the self-esteem of poor Johnny.

Johnny was literally poor (in school). He was making the minimum salary and getting fined for missing homework. Johnny was also literally stupid. He went into Mrs. Steele's desk when we had a substitute and stole a wad of Steele Dollars. When Mrs. Steele returned, she questioned the class regarding the missing money. No one confessed. It was the top story in the newspaper.

A week later at Market Day, Johnny, flush with cash, went on a buying spree. Mrs. Steele knew Johnny's financial situation, so she took the cash back and reported the situation to the principal and Johnny's mom. I reported the capture of the thief in the newspaper. (Mrs. Steele would not let me report the name of the robber).

Liberals would say that the capitalism experiment caused Johnny to steal. I had known Johnny since kindergarten. He was a punk on the road to no where and even the great Mrs. Steele could not teach him the cause and effect of hard work. But she taught me.

Conservative Kids Don't Need Dr. AimLow Ablow

In Texas kids are paid $100 for each AP exam passed.

A non-profit called Advanced Placement Strategies established the program. It was featured on the Today Show this morning. Two executives affiliated with Advanced Placement Strategies provided irrefutable data that clearly illustrated the power of the corporately funded project.

From 1991 to 1995 about 300 AP exams were taken in 10 DISD Schools in Math, Science and English about 150 passed.

In 2006, 3,965 tests were taken and 1,300 passed.

Wait for it.

Wait.

Yep I heard it. This program discriminates against African Americans and Hispanics.

Not true Jessee.

From 1991 to 1995 about 25 AP tests were passed by minorities in the test schools.

In 2006, 532 AP tests were passed by African Americans and Hispanics. WOW.

US Public Schools have about 25 minority kids pass an AP test per 1,000. In the Texas test program that number is 3X.

The scores in Math and Science for all students went from an average of 70 in the early 90's to 877 in 2006. The program is working.

Are the tests easier? No. Are the teachers better? Yes.

Teachers are given extra training and cash incentives too. Add in professional management (not government oversight), measurement and accountability and you have a successful program.

Of course the Today Show had to parade out a liberal psychologist (Dr. Ablow). Dr. AimLow told a very unconvincing theory about how this program will hurt the self-esteem of the kids who do not take AP classes or happen to be artists. Dr. AimLow, we have programs to reward artists, especially those high achievers who smear elephant dung on the Virgin Mary.

Dr. Aimlow did not seem to care about the improved self-esteem of the considerable number of additional students who not only challenged themselves to take the AP classes but also passed and earned college credits. His great evidence was the he had great passionate teachers who motivated him without paying him. Focus group of one, doctor. Thanks for the shallow insight. I agree that everyone has one or two teachers who touched them, but let's face it the vast majority of teachers were dull and quite forgettable.

And Doctor, you are not considering the other side of the equation. Teachers are given incentives to get better and more schools are encouraged to offer AP classes. Plus the program provides incentives to kids in the form of food and door prizes to show up to review sessions on a Saturday. I know this hurts the self-esteem of kids who hate prizes and do not eat.

Dr. AimLow you called this program a shortcut to getting back on track in Math and Science. I am not sure if you noticed but America is getting passed up in Math and Science by the rest of the world while the Bush / Kennedy No Kid Gets To Far Ahead Else Little Johnny Might Feel Bad and Start to Wet his Bed Again Plan sputters along in bureaucratic red tape and while child psychologists try to protect the self-esteem of the lowest common denominator at the expense of the self-esteem of the kids who work hard to get ahead.

Dr. AimLow went to Brown and Johns Hopkins but he got schooled today on Today.

The Today Show had another liberal, Robert Scheaffer, who was also against the program. He stated that this kind of motivation generally does not work. (Did you see the data?). And this program will lead to a cynical attitude in student who will not study unless paid. The consequences for not studying are the same with or without the program. Mr Scheaffer, we would not want to teach kids that they get paid for pushing themselves to succeed. That never happens in the real world. Please think before you talk on TV.

You all know that my oldest son has ADHD. (Story here and here) At home, he watches his brother and sister excel academically, socially and athletically. At school, his schoolmates jokingly call him a retard for taking the remedial classes. My son's self-esteem would not be changed in the least if an AP student earned a Benjamin or three.

Conservative kids need radical new thinking to compete in this world.

What is More Important Stature or Stance?

Seems that there is now quite a bit of interest in Fred Daulton Thompson. From my site meter I can see what the real important issues are. Google's referring search terms can be very telling.

Using this very unscientific data, I have determined that Fred's stature is more important then Fred's stance on the issues; Fred's height, his age, where he went to college and how many times he has been married and whether he is Catholic or not are much more important than his stance on abortion, gun control, taxes and the death penalty.

Here is what I have found

Fred was born in Sheffield, Alabama on August 19th 1942. That would make him 64. When Fred Thompson puts his hand on the bible during the inauguration, he will be 3 years younger than when Ronald Reagan took office as the oldest president at the age of 69. McCain is 70 for those keeping score.

What Thompson lacks in experience vis-a-vis Reagan, he makes up in height. Fred Thompson is 6' 6" or 5 inches taller than Reagan. And a full 11 inches taller than McCain and 12 inches taller than Hillary Clinton.

Thompson has been married the same amount of times as Reagan. He is currently married to Jeri Kehn married June 2002 and they have one daughter. He was married to Sarah Lindsey from 1959 to 1985 and they had two boys and a daughter together. They divorced. He has five grandchildren.

He is not Catholic. The 106th Congressional Record has Church of Christ (Stone Campbell) listed as his church affiliation. On the Issues lists him as Protestant since 2002. That was the year he was remarried.

Senator Thompson went to Memphis State University in 1964 and Vanderbilt University in 1967.

Fred Thompson worked as a shoe salesman. Jack Reagan, Ronald's Dad, was a shoe salesman. Fred's dad was a used car salesman. Which makes both dads more noble than 95% of the politicians in Washington.

Test scores for high school students have hit a new, 40-year low, says Pat Buchanan, a founding editor of American Conservative magazine.

A National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) test of 12th-grade achievement was given to what the New York Times called a "representative sample of 21,000 high school seniors attending 900 public and private schools from January to March 2005."

What did the tests reveal?

* Since 1990, the share of students lacking even basic reading skills has risen by a third, from 20 percent to 27 percent.
* Only 35 percent of high school seniors have reached a "proficient" level in reading, down from 40 percent.
* Only 16 percent of black and 20 percent of Hispanic students had reached a proficient level in reading.
* Among high school seniors, only 29 percent of whites, 10 percent of Hispanic students and 6 percent of black students were proficient in math.

Factor the dropouts back in, and the NAEP test suggests:

* Of black kids starting in first grade, about one in eight will be able to read at the level of a high school senior after 12 years, and one in 33 will be able to do the math.
* Among Hispanic kids, one in 10 will be able to read at a high-school senior level, but only one in 20 will be able to do high-school math.

Under George W. Bush, U.S. Department of Education funding has risen 92 percent in six years, from $35.5 billion in 2001 to $68 billion in 2007. Sinking test scores are what we have to show for it. Taxpayers are being lied to and swindled by the education industry, which has failed them, failed America and flunked its assignment -- and should be expelled for cheating, says Buchanan.

Bill Gates Says Conservative Kids Should Study Math.

Bill Gates testified on capital hill today. He is concerned with the limit of 65,000 visas for highly skilled immigrants. Gates said. “America will find it infinitely more difficult to maintain its technological leadership if it shuts out the very people who are most able to help us compete.”

Federal Law provides 65,000 H1-B visas for scientists, engineers, computer programmers and other professionals every year. Many from India and China. Employers say that it is not enough.

Gates has been unable to fill 3,000 jobs at Microsoft because of this limitation. That is 3,000 high paying tax generating jobs.

But the bigger issue that Gates brought up is the current state of American Schools. A federal study showed that 1/3 of the kids fail to take a standard-level curriculum, which is defined as including (at least 4 credits of English and 3 credits each of social studies, math and science). On a national science test, about 50% of 12th-graders failed to show basic skills.

Gates also called on lawmakers to give more resources to improving the teaching of math and science.

Sen. Edward Kennedy D-Mass., chairman of the Committee on Health (that's laughable isn't), Education, Labor and Pensions, said the issue would be addressed when Congress takes up BROAD immigration reform legislation this session.

When pressed to specify his comments - Sen Kennedy raised his gin and tonic and vowed to eliminate the visa caps for all broads. Saying, "You can never have enough good looking broads!" When his aide told him that Gates wants highly skilled programmers, Kennedy said, "We all have our fetishes" as he burped and reached for a bag of pork rinds.

Conservative Kids would be well served to study math and science. And not take health advice from a slurring fat cat.

Conservative Kids are Scared of Hillary not Chinese

Let me preface this by saying that I am an engineer turned marketer, I am not an economist.

Recently Hillary raised a red flag about the amount of American debt being held by foreign countries, namely China and Japan. The opportunistic timing of the announcement was the day after Greenspan burped, China hiccuped and the Dow Jones Stock Exchange Index took a 400 point header.

Most financial experts would agree that this was a healthy correction after a long long upward run. Not the Yale grad opportunist, she blamed Bush and trade deficits.

She seems to think that we will be held hostage by China. Perhaps I do not understand, and if I am wrong please enlighten me, but China is buying American debt so essentially they are investing in our country. Therefore they would have a vested interest in our prosperity. Plus That means, we have their money. Right? So who has the power?

Again, I am not an economist, but I do not see the risk that the women with forked tongue sees.

Conservative kids: Chinese military might, the over population of Chinese males vis-a-vis Chinese women and the old line Chinese Communists party scare me a little. The Chinese investing in the US actually alleviates some anxiety. One can only hope that the Chinese population continues to enjoy the fruits of economic prosperity and the old line Chinese government does not get threatened by a population hungry for increased prosperity instead of food. Seriously, what scares me more is a Hillary presidency where she sells the Lincoln bedroom for cash and gives out military secrets like the Wok and Roll restaurant gives out fortune cookies or extra packets of duck sauce.

I will look for economists opinions on this subject and let you know if I am right on or if I am going to have to take a refresher course in economics.

Be careful Hillary. You already lost money from your Jewish friends in Hollywood to Obama. Don't bite the other hand that feeds you.

Tiki and the Articulation of Jim Crow Laws

In my January 12th post, I stated that Tiki Barber was a role model for conservative kids. I also reported wrongly that Tiki had inked a deal with ESPN / Good Morning America. Seems he just signed a deal with the TODAY show and NBC Football.

Anyway, I was reading my earlier post and I noticed that I called Tiki articulate. At the time of the post, I did not know that it was an insult to call an articulate black person articulate. So, Tiki, please accept my apologies.

Apparently, the issue with using the term articulate when referring to an African American person is that this term, by rule*, can only be used in comparison to other blacks and not to the general population. I guess I missed that chapter in the writer's guide, Strunk and White's Elements of Style.

So when someone like Bush or Biden says that Obama is articulate they are not saying he is articulate compared to other presidential candidates, but by rule, that he is articulate compared to most blacks that they happened to see or hear from their ivory towers. (By the way, Biden is an idiot and Bush is not the most articulate president we have ever had.)

At the risk of being called a racist, I am going to again call Tiki Barber articulate.

At the risk of breaking the only Jim Crow law still on the books, I am going to state for the record, that Tiki is articulate in comparison to all people because in general very few people are articulate. In fact I am going to state that Tiki is a stronger communicator than the white, anti-American and immature Katie Couric. An anchorwomen who is only comfortable interviewing Grover or Elmo.

But to appease the blacks who think that the term articulate can only be used in comparison to others in the same race and not broadly. I am going to state that Tiki is articulate compared to Michael Irvin. Micheal Irvin brings a lot of nothing to a football broadcast. He just spews incoherent, incomprehensible, baffling, undecipherable, unintelligible noise. And I can say that the ex-gun toting drug addict is no role model for conservative kids.

Tiki, I hope that your articulate (damn I said it again, sorry) conservative style will keep left leaning Lauer (nice job Albany Media Bias Blog) honest. I will switch from Fox and Friends to the TODAY show if you do.

The Tiki Barber Fathead poster hanging on my son's wall is a constant reminder of a positive role model for my kid. I hope he grows up to be as articulate, positive and successful as Tiki.

You Can't Teach Self-Reliance to a Lazy Learner

As a conservative dad, I believe very strongly in self-reliance. I demand it. I believe that the world is a cruel place and that you need to be prepared for it.

As a result, I wrongly diagnosed my son as a lazy liberal even after a pediatrician concluded that my son at a young age had ADD (without testing). I always thought that ADD was over diagnosed - still do. We resisted medicating our son and went with teaching and consequences.

Despite our best efforts, my son continued to struggle. Another expert thought ear infections, which led to speech delay, was the main problem. Tubes fixed the problem. Educational experts concluded after IQ type testing that my son would catch up and it should not be concerning.

Third grade discipline problems surfaced again. The experts said, "Oh that's just the boy in him no worries".

My son stumbled through school, but was moving ahead until he hit a wall in 7th grade. The educational experts said, "Oh he is just a teen he will be fine". I was not convinced, so I finally pushed for tests.

He was diagnosed with ADD at the end of the school year and was taking some strong medication. (He had been on and off of meds for 2 years) In eighth grade, we were on his teachers like white on rice to adhere to our son’s special needs. All of the sudden, mid year his grades were great. But I had my suspicions that something was not quite right because he was still not applying himself. He graduated middle school. We were hopeful even though we remained skeptical. In HS (9th), my son failed 4 of 7 classes the first semester and 5 of 7 with 2 D(s) the next semester. What I realized too late was his teachers in middle school gave him a free pass. These teachers did not want to be bothered by a kid with special needs and two persistent parents. . He was not prepared for the rigors of HS.

So my advice to all who will listen, if your kid is misbehaving and underperforming and basic parenting discipline and teaching are not working - make sure you get the right diagnosis as quickly as possible. And know the laws so you can get the maximum support available to help you help your kid.

A Trip to Bond with Dad

Every year I take each of my kids on a separate trip alone with dad. My nine year old and I share the passion of baseball, so we go to spring training each year. We go to about 4 games each trip. We get to each game about 2 hours early to watch batting practice and get foul balls. I really enjoy watching my son manuever to gather autographs. This annual trip is special because we visit my dad, who also has the love of baseball in his DNA.

Last year, I took my daughter to the red carpet premier of the DVD release of Cinderella in NYC. This included a Cinderella Ball after the Disney premier. My daughter dressed up in a Cinderella gown. I think that she really felt like a Cinderella princess because many New Yorkers stopped to ask her if she was the real Cinderella. I will never forget that day as long as I live.

I older son loves to fish, so our last trip was a fishing trip. (I hate fishing.) We decided to go to beautiful Seattle to fish Silver Salmon on the Sound. We got a private boat and a captain. After 4 hours, we had 5 fish and lots of laughs. I was thankful that my son got the biggest fish. He was so proud about that that he bought a T-shirt to tell the world that his fish is bigger than his dad's fish. He needs wins.

This weekend my older son and I are in Chicago. His other love is cars. So we are at the 2007 Autoshow. I like cars more than to fish so I am happy. We listened to Michael Savage on the way up. He got his first dose of conservative politics. I was surprised how attentive my son was and that he did not want to change the channel for some rap music. He even commented that Michael Savage should run for President to protect this nation.

My wife is a stay at home wife and gets a lot of individual time with the kids. These trips allow me to bond each kid. I highly recommend it.

Electricity, Ice, Life, and Fear

An ice storm knocked out our electricity and cable (phone, internet and TV). I am in constant awe of nature. Perhaps more impressive is the power of electricity. Electricity has the power to keep families separated with distractions. On this cold, icy, stormy night, my wife, my three kids and I played the game of Life without distractions. I enjoyed this time tremendously.

As I reflect on the game. I realized that this board game quite accurately illustrated our real lives. My nine-year-old son won. Life comes so easy for him. My six-year-old daughter insisted on doing everything herself as she laughed her way through a very successful life. My older son, who struggles with real life as he battles ADD, struggled in this board game as well. His first spin was a 1. His second spin was a 1. His third spin was a 1. He started off slow and as a result struggled to catch up. He ended up with the least amount of money and then blamed his misfortune on everyone else. My older son did not speak a word until he was about three. He has been catching up in real life and blaming others for his misfortunes ever since.

Truth be told. My older son is the reason I started this Blog. I could not reconcile the vast differences in my kids. I also struggled to understand my son’s issues. He looks like a normal kid on the outside. I can only image the pain he has on the inside. I struggle to understand him because I am so different from him.

We are like night and day. I was a hardworking kid. I made money from the time I was 10 years old. I had so much money at age 12 that my dad and mom borrowed money from me when they needed help with a down payment on a new home. I brought that work ethic to school as a result I did better at school than I really should have.

Fear was my motivating factor. I never wanted to disappoint anyone including myself. I also feared looking stupid. This particular fear did not dissipate as I achieved more and more, in fact, the better I did in school the more fearful I became. Which makes sense because the expectations by me and others always seemed higher. This fear drove me to succeed from my days in elementary school until I graduated with my a Ivy League Masters Degree.

I remember the first fearful day of engineering college. It started with a speech from the dean. He said look to your right and look to your left, those people will not graduate with an engineering degree. There were 628 students in that auditorium non more fearful than me. True to the dean's word, about 210 graduated. I worked my ass off and graduated 26th in the College of Engineering and 5th in Mechanical Engineering. But it came with a price. I sacrificed fun and friends to succeed in college. As a result I made no good lasting fun friendships. But fear is no fun so I didn't really have a choice.

So you can understand why I struggle to understand my son's lack of motivation in school, in forging and maintaining friendships and in the real game of life.

In my quest to help my son, I met a man who is now a successful computer programmer. This man suffered or I should say suffers from ADD. Through telling me about his life experiences, he has opened my eyes that this is a real learning disability that requires real and unique strategies. I am in the camp that ADD and ADHD is over diagnosed. But I am now firmly in the camp that ADD and ADHD are real and they can be debilitating.

Fear may be my son's motivating factor too, except he is not motivated by it in a positive way. He is fearful that he will fail, so he does not try at all. Like I said, we are so different.

Now that I have finally announced this, I will share more on this subject in the future

Islam Teaching Hate

I am not sure how Murtha or Clinton or Obama or Kennedy or Kerry or Reid can watch this video and not change their stance. I also wonder how they can put their ambition for personal power ahead of the safety of our children.

You are probably wondering what you can do to protect your conservative kids. I think that now more then ever we need a strong president. Newt or Rudy or Fred Daulton Thompson need to win in '08.

Anna Nicole Smith Martyr for Liberalism

I was listening to talk radio yesterday. The 2 1/2 minute Fox news capsule at the top of the hour led with the death of Anna Nicole Smith live at the autopsy, then went on to other less important national issues.

The 1 1/2 minute local news capsule followed immediately. They usually talk about a local murder, a fire or how much salt is left in the road salt pile, but on this day they led with the same Anna Nicole Smith story. Same facts.

While heroes are dying in Iraq fighting terror on foreign soil so we do not have to fight terror here, our media dwells on the death of a drug addicted cover girl. What does this tell our kids?

But I know why.

Anna Nicole was the poster child (or pin up girl) for liberalism. She did not want to work too hard so she decided to take money from the rich (bilking billionaire J Howard Marshall). When that did not work she looked in the liberal handbook and went to Plan B, the courts. She even went a far as the supreme court to sue for her bounty. Then of course, no liberal story would be complete without portraying a pole dancing, drug addict as a victim. But when a hero dies in Iraq or Afghanistan you hear a number.

Hello America, this is Katie Couric. There was an American Tragedy today. Anna Nicole Smith our liberal soul sister died a martyr for our cause. Followed by a 20 minute lovefest of pictures and interviews. In other news, number 3,115 died today in Iraq.

The media fuels the fire of Islamic Extremism and Murtha by giving them hope that America is going to quit the fight. Soon American women even the ultra sexy ones like Anna Nicole will be wearing burqas thanks to the media. Maybe then Ted Turner will wake up and rally the troops in defiance of his seditious wife. Or perhaps, Bill Clinton will walk down the hall and knock on his wife's bedroom door in the White House and urge Madam President to do something.

Pelosi Wants An Umpa Lumpa Right Now

I can't believe that the person 3rd in line for the Presidency is whining and crying like a spoiled brat. Nancy, please try to set a better example for America's kids.

Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the House from the same party that gave us the multi-mansion owning, private jet flying, global warming alarmist, Al Gore, wants an Air Force Plane to fly around in. And not the little plane that former Speaker Dennis Hassert had, she wants a big one. And if she does not get her way, he is going call Mr. Bush a big fat sexist.

After 9/11, a person of this stature needs the protection of a private plane, but she does not need a jumbo jet.

Nancy, I guess you did not learn the lesson that Willie Wonka was trying to make. Bad kids get kicked off the chocolate factory tour for misbehaving. Good pure conservative kids get the prize. I always remind my conservative kids that good things happen to good kids.

Conservative Kids Like Green Snow

A major snow storm blanketed my city today. I left work at 3:15 to start my 25 mile commute home. After Three treacherous hours, I arrived at home. I decided to work off some of the frustration and tension of the long drive by shoveling the driveway. I asked my 9 year old son if he wanted to make a few bucks. He jumped at the chance.

While we were working, I asked him a simple question, "What color is the snow today". He turned and gave me a strange look and said, "It's white, today and it's always white."

I said, "Not true, when I was a kid, snow was green."

He said, "Green?, no way dad"

I said, "Well every time it snowed, I would go out and shovel driveways and make money, green money."

"How much?"

I told him that when I had a shovel I used to make about $50 every snow. But when I got a snowblower, I used to make $200 per snow.

"Can we could get a snow blower?"

I told him that I bought the snowblower with the money I made mowing lawns.

"Cool, I am going to buy a snowblower next winter. (He and his 11 year old buddy were recently contracted to cut a neighbors lawn this spring and summer.)

After we finished our driveway, my son teamed up with his neighbor buddy and shoveled three more driveways. They each made $40.

When I put him to bed I asked him if it felt great to earn that much money. He grinned from ear to ear and said, "Dad, I sure hope it snows again tomorrow."

Conservative Kids Need Balls to be Great Today.

Yesterday morning, I was in a warehouse breathing in the exhaust from a kerosene heater. I was in that warehouse turned indoor baseball training facility to watch my nine year old son's private hitting lesson.

When I was young, I played baseball all the time. When I was not playing baseball, I was playing whiffle ball. When I was not playing whiffle ball, I was playing stickball. In the winter, my best friend Joe and I would play ruler ball, an indoor baseball game played with a rolled up piece of tinfoil and a ruler. When we tired of that, we played Strat-o-matic baseball.

My oldest son never showed much interest in Baseball. Soccer was his passion. My youngest son, on the other hand, has an unbridled passion for baseball and skill to match. At the age of two, he could hit anything that you threw at him. At five, he was able to hit in a 35 mph batting cage with consistency. It made me proud every time someone looked at him in awe and asked me how old he was. Once organized ball started, he led his team and perhaps the entire league in hitting each and every year.

In the off season he would drive me nuts asking when baseball would start again. So I started taking to the batting cages once a week in the winter. Last year, I hired a highly regarded hitting instructor to keep him sharp in the off season.

So there I am watching him hit ball after ball of one hour with a kerosene heater screaming in the background. The situation triggered a memory of a bio I saw during the Olympics about a Russian gymnast who worked out in an old warehouse 2,000 kilometers from her parents and her home town. Can you even imagine sending your kid away on the hope they will be that one in a million kid to make it? But the world is full of fanatical parents who push their kids to pursue Olympic sized dreams. Or should I say wacky parent's dreams?

This is new right? Big money and ESPN fame must be driving this phenomenon. Right?

Well you may be surprised to know that parents have perhaps always been a little nutty when it comes to their kids.

Since the early days of the Catholic Church, Popes have looked for singers with unusually high voices for the Vatican choir. St. Paul forbade women from singing in church so any church musical piece that was scored for a very high voice required a prepubescent boy or a man straining to sing a high falsetto.

One day, someone realized that boys who were castrated (had their testicles removed) retained their high-pitched voices into manhood. Pope Clement VIII started employing the services of Castrati (castrated sopranos) around 1600. The Vatican Chapel choir used them up until 1902. (Three hundred years.)

The practice of castrating boys became totally acceptable in Italy by the eighteenth century. The Castrati were highly prized by opera companies. A successful soprano could become very rich. As a consequence, many poor Italian families with a young son possessing an exceptional soprano voice would have him castrated in hopes of becoming a big star in adulthood. Even though most did not find fame and many died of infection.

So after the hitting lesson, in the freezing cold warehouse at 9:00 o'clock in the morning when every missed hit ball stung his hands, I asked my son how the lesson was. It was a gut check to make sure I was not pushing him. He said, "Dad that was awesome. When is the next lesson?"

As long as he's having fun, I'll continue to build his confidence, I'll give him strategies to get better and I'll give him the financial support and resources to meet his goals. And I will sit back and watch him go balls to the walls to achieve his dreams whatever they may be.

Conservative Kids Groundhog Day

Another great Groundhog Day has come and gone.

Like all good conservative families, on Groundhog Eve we fasted from sun up to sun down. Then we had our traditional Groundhog Eve dinner with the family. The kids were undoubtedly excited and could not sleep, so we stayed up and watched Bill Murray in the movie Groundhog Day. I can watch that movie everyday. Can't you.

On Groundhog Day morning, the kids got up around 5:30a and ran into our room to wake us up. My wife reminded them that Puxsutawney Phil can not predict anything until the sun comes up on Gobbler's Knob. But we got up with them because we remember how excited we were on Groundhog Day when we were a kids.

Following family tradition, we turned the lights on and did shadow puppets. I did a few of the classics, Lincoln, Reagan and Charleston Heston. My two boys started to do a Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky shadow puppet skit, but we did not let that go to far. My six year old daughter did the best one of the day, at first we thought it was a snake, but it turned out to be Hillary giving a concession speech after losing the '08 election to Fred Daulton Thompson.

Then we watched Phil come out of his hole. It was a tense few minutes. Then fortunately Phil did not predicted 6 more years of democratic control. We all breathed a sigh of relief.

Our extended family of conservative grandparents and cousins all gathered later in the day to celebrate and to eat a big Groundhog Day feast.

My Daddy the Dancer

One day a fourth-grade teacher asked the children what their fathers did for a living.

All the typical answers came up -- fireman, mechanic, businessman, salesman, doctor, lawyer, and so forth.

However, an ultra conservative kid, Justin was being uncharacteristically quiet, so when the teacher prodded him about his father, he replied, "My father's an exotic dancer in a gay cabaret and takes off all his clothes in front of other men and they put money in his underwear.

The teacher, obviously shaken by this statement, hurriedly set the other children to work on some exercises and then took little Justin aside to ask him, "Is that really true about your father?" "No," the boy said, "He works for the Democratic National Committee and is helping to get Hillary Clinton to be our next President, but I was too embarrassed to say that in front of the other conservative kids."

My bother-in-law, a proud police officer who projects his city from drug, thugs and illegal immigrants every day, sent me this email joke. I thought it was funny and it fits my blog theme. Kudos to the writer of the joke.

Pelosi Visits Injured Pigeons in Iraq

This past week, a Sunni bomb hidden in a box of pigeons at an animal market exploded killing all the boxed pigeons and countless other animals. A few people were killed too. Upon hearing about the horrific news, Nancy Pelosi flew over to Baghdad to pay respects to the pigeons.

Then in a surprising turn of events, Pelosi not only made comments in support of Bush's surge plan of 20,000 additional troops, but also called for doubling that number.

The Sunni extremists made a critical mistake pissing off Pelosi's voter base, PETA members.

Although some Federal officials suspect that PETA actually planted the bomb in the animal market to divert attention from the trial of two PETA members accused of killing animals.

Another lesson for Conservative Kids: Sometimes facts are stranger than fiction.

Pardon for Ramos and Compean is Good PR

Federal officials fanned out across Southern California over the past week in one of the biggest sweeps of its kind, arresting 761 illegal immigrants. Fanned out. Come on. You can't find 761 illegal immigrants on one city block in LA? Why didn't they look in one High School were we all know illegals are getting "free" education?

This PR stunt "biggest sweeps of its kind" is laughable. The timing before the State of the Union Address is dubious.

Do you know what's even more laughable. To get this incredible number of illegals 761 (among What?, 20 million illegals) they had to round up illegals who were already rounded up. Yep, 450 were rounded up in while in jail. Sounds like they rounded up 311 which I guess is not a record and then got one at a time (also not PR worthy) as each illegal got caught committing a crime.

We need comprehensive immigration reform now. We need to lock down the borders. We do not need more strain on Home Land Security by adding the bureaucracy of a temp worker program.

If Congress and our liberal president do pass an amnesty bill, then please least make English the official language and encourage these immigrants to assimilate into our society like my grandparents did.

To get a job and avoid prejudice, my Italian grandmother changed her name from Gaetana to Catherine. She and her husband learned English quickly. And they did not let their kids speak Italian so they would assimilate as fast as possible. They came to the USA for a better life, not to recreate the same impoverished life they had in Italia. So they worked hard to be Americans.

Conservative kids need classmates who do not slow the class down. Conservative kids need classmates who love America.

Also, I was disappointed that President Bush did not pardon Agents Ramos and Compean during the State of the Union Address. Mr. President please pardon these agents who were protecting themselves and our great country.

By the way, Mr. President pardoning these men during the State of the Union would have made for better PR than an over dramatized round up. Please do not do a cowardly plethora of pardons as you walk out the door like Clinton. Don't let these men wait that long.

I find it troubling that Hillary is "in to win" the Presidential nomination, but she is not "in to win" the war. At least I don't think she is. Depends on who you talk to and on what day. Anyway.

What's more troubling is that Hillary will spend $107,000,000 to get the nomination in 2007 alone. But she will be on the side of the aisle that stands in the way of the funding that is needed to win this war in IRAQ.

Hillary, Conservative Kids want to win this war on foreign soil now. They do not want to fight this war on our soil with you as President.

Spend what you want to seek power, but be in the war to win.

Fred Thompson Reaganesque?

I commented in a recent post A History Lesson for Conservative Kids - that a John Zogby poll concluded that the Nation Now Needs a New Reagan. They also concluded that Hillary is the most Reaganesque which tells me the poll was flawed and I should find another topic.

But this did not sit well with me.

I also commented in a recent post Obama, Madressa Education. Class or No Class that we can only hope a conservative with some star power emerges.

When I thought about these two posts together - I came to one conservative conclusion.

Rudy Guiliani has star power, but he has a lot of baggage and his social ideology will not sit will with the Christian Conservatives. McCain lacks energy and charisma. Fred Thompson is conservative. He's an actor. He has charisma and a sense of humor. Who is more Reaganesque than Fred Thompson?

Partial Birth Abortions Good, Spanking Bad

Does anyone find it curious that a member of the political party that supports partial birth abortions is sponsoring an anti-spanking bill to protect children? I do.

California Assemblywoman Sally J. Lieber (sponsor of the bill), we need laws that protect children from child abuse. No doubt. But this bill amounts to over-legislation. Overall Americans have been raising productive Americans for generations. And generation after generation it has been American parents who decided what's right for their American kids.

I do not spank my conservative kids, but I demand discipline and there are consequences for lack of discipline. Hard labor (weeding) is my favorite consequence. All children need discipline to cope and succeed in this world.

Conservative Kids need an honest President.

It did not take long for Mrs Clinton to start destroying her political opponent, Barrack Hussein Obama. The day before she announces that she is in. Insight Magazine runs a story "Hillary's team has questions about Obama's Muslim background"

Coincidence, I think not.

So how does this revelation impact conservative kids. Well, hopefully a conservative with some star power will emerge. If not, dare I say, it might be better to deal with the devil we know over the devil we don't. (Please note that was not an endorsement of Mrs. Clinton)

Muslim or not, Obama's lack of honesty is troubling. We need honesty in a president. Which is why we do not need Hillary either. Obama will, of course, blame his clandestine approach regarding his Muslim upbringing on the prejudice of the American populace.

Conservative Dad Prediction: Obama will downplay Muslim upbringing at first. Hillary will turn up the heat. (This is the only way the story will get into the mainstream press). Obama will then play the role of victim and try to convince America they are bad. Americans will accept blame. Some Americans will even vote for him to prove they're politically correct.

His concerns are probably founded. I think America would elect the right woman. I think America would elect the right African American, Asian American or Hispanic American. I do not think that America is ready for a Muslim. Not now during a jihad.

You can call it prejudice. I call it cautious.

I think that we can all agree that Communist countries produced some inferior cars. They made inferior cars and other products because there was no incentive to produce better cars. The engineers, designers, line workers, etc. made the same amount of money regardless of the quality of the car. And there was no other car company producing better cars. Lack of competition leads to complacency.

Result - Yugo not very far.

Well many schools in the US are graduating inferior students especially our inner city schools.

Citing data from the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), political scientist Abigail Thernstrom and her historian husband, Stephan Thernstrom, have written about how African-Americans, by the 12th grade, "are typically four years behind white and Asian students," with Hispanics "doing only a tad better than black students." Translated, this means that black and Hispanic students are finishing high school, on average, "with a junior high education."

Part of the problem is poor parenting. This will always be the biggest factor. But there are many caring and supportive parents whose children struggle in these inner city schools because the environment is so detrimental to learning. There are no incentives for the teachers, principals, superintendents to produce better kids in these schools (The jury is still out on "no child left behind".) And without a school voucher program there's no competition. Sounds like a YUGO factory to me.

Result: You go no where.

Liberals (and I include Bush) continue to throw money at the problem and the problem is not going away. It is time to try a new approach, it is time for school choice and vouchers. It is time for competition.

According to the research, the voucher program is particularly promising for African American students. And polls show that 70+% of African Americans want it.

So who's keeping this from happening. The ACLU under the guise of separation of church and state. The Rev. Jesse Jackass of course opposes it so he can keep his loyal base ignorant to his profiteering ignorance. The Democrats oppose it because, well, the Republicans favor it.

School vouchers are gaining momentum. The Arizona Supreme Court refused to hear ACLU opposition to vouchers this week. There will soon be more conservative kids in blue state cities.

In a recent John Zogby poll, he claims the world would select Reagan to help get the US through this time of terror.

Roosevelt, Kennedy and Lincoln were also listed. But perhaps the president with the best record at fighting Islamic Terrorism was Thomas Jefferson. Yes our founding fathers encountered the evils of radical Islam fought it and won.

This poll also suggests that Hillary is the most Reagan-like candidate.

After blogging about Cinnamon Stillwell's transformation from Liberal leaning to Conservative leaning, I realized my wife has probably transformed somewhat since we first met.

When I first met my wife, she was a mental health case worker. In those days, she might have considered herself liberal leaning, if she cared enough about politics to label herself (which she did not). At the time, her financial situation was tenuous at best and her job put her into dangerous situations almost daily. She used to travel to very scary neighborhoods and go into some scary homes. Her mission was to get very unstable people to take their meds. God Bless people who do this type of work. During our first year of marraige, I remember getting some very scary calls in the middle of the night from some of the people she helped treat.

Now she's is a stay-at-home country club mother of three. She gave up case work, but she volunteers for Children's hospital and Meals on Wheels.

One would conclude that she still has a kind heart. One would also conclude that life is somewhat less scary. The so called experts showcased in the Psychology Today article would conclude that she should be more liberal.

So, I had her take the World's Smallest Political Quiz. The test rated her as a Conservative - almost a Statist. The difference. She has more to lose now (husband, kids, home, money). Perhaps having more makes you more scared and therefore more conservative. Perhaps living with a guy who insists on maintaining a mini - Reagan Library in our house and flying an American Flag 24/7 has biased her a little? The Statist bent. She still wants the government to protect people down and out.

For the record, I was a Conservative - Libertarian.

Tiki Barber, Role Model for Conservative Kids

For Christmas I wanted to get my son a giant, seemingly 3D, Fathead sports player poster for this room. There were many player choices. I needed the right one. One that exemplified sports success (hustle and determination) but I wanted the player to be a great role model too. Baseball and Football are my son's favorite sports. I looked at our home town team. I did not find any players who were not already featured on a police blotter. I looked at my favorite teams NY Giants and NY Yankees. For the Giants, Tiki Barbar and Lawrence Taylor were featured. Lawrence Taylor was one of my favorites growing up - but he was no role model. So it was between Tiki Barbar and Derek Jeter. I picked Tiki.

There is no better role model in sports since the late great Lou Gehrig than Tiki Barber.

Tiki was (he retired last week) an unbelievable football player. Tiki was an well informed and very articulate Fox and Friends morning host summer sub (I am sure that Katie Couric was jealous). Tiki Barber retired on his terms with his health and he did it while he was still on top. Tiki always has a welcoming smile. Tiki is a children's book author. Tiki is my son's and my favorite NFL player. Now he moves on to ABC where he will work on Good Morning America, 20/20 and ESPN. I think that GMA and 20/20 will benefit from adding a conservative voice.

Tiki thanks for the great effort. I will miss you as a football player, but I will follow your every word on TV.

Seems fear of death is the most powerful driver of conservative thought.

This post was inspired by Psychology Today's most emailed and popular article, The Ideological Animal. Some of the conclusions in the piece are laughable. Let's explore.

It starts by introducing Cinnamon Stillwell, a women who did a 180 from left to right after 9/11. Cinnamon, a former liberal, is now a conservative columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle. The liberals felt a need to study this because she must certainly have a mental disorder. One of course that can be fixed with a mood altering prescription subsidized by President Hillary Clinton's Health Care Bill.

She changed because she realized that liberals had more sympathy for terrorists than the victims. And becasue liberals were consumed with hatred toward our country. She turned to conservative talk radio to hear thoughts more aligned to her enlightened thinking on the war on terror. She soon realized that after opening her mind to conservative thought that "smaller government, traditional societal structures, respect and reverence for life, the importance of family, personal responsibility, national unity over identity politics." and even "the idea of self-preservation in perilous times. (gun rights)" made sense.

The article tries to explain this change.

We tend to believe our political views have evolved by a process of rational thought, as we consider arguments, weigh evidence, and draw conclusions. But the truth is more complicated. Our political preferences are equally the result of factors we're not aware of—such as how educated we are, how scary the world seems at a given moment, and personality traits that are first apparent in early childhood. Among the most potent motivators, it turns out, is fear.... The fear of death alone is surprisingly effective in shaping our political decisions—more powerful, often, than thought itself.

Seems that rational thought prompted Cinnamon to change after weighing the evidence. She did not get any more educated and 9/11 did not impact her early childhood. The article goes on to blame fear of death. How about vengeance? How about righting a wrong? How about good versus evil? How about patriotism? How about the fear of an economic calamity destroying savings or our beautiful way of life? No fear of death explains it all. At least they didn't blame breast feeding or lack there of again.

I can see the republican strategists now scheming ways to speed up the avian flu pandemic and granting amnesty to all illegal Islamic extremists.

Twenty years later, they decided to compare the subjects' childhood personalities with their political preferences as adults. (To draw asinine bias conclusions. What a waste of 20 years)

Studies show that people who study abroad become more liberal than those who stay home. (The study should have concluded that people who seem to hate America tend to travel abroad more than people who love America)

Professors at major universities are more liberal than their counterparts at less acclaimed institutions. (I guess it couldn't be discrimination in hiring at the major universities. Don't worry fellow bloggers I already call the ACLU to take on the case.)

Don't Underestimate Your Conservative Kids

Last month, My daughter and I were sitting in the stands watching my son practice football. Several parents were doing the same. My daughter loves math, so she asked me to quiz her on some math problems to pass the time. I challenged her with addition, subtraction and multiplication problems. She answered every problem correctly.

An impressed parent turned to my daughter and said, "Wow, you're one smart little girl. What grade are you in?" My daughter replied, "kindergarten". The women turned to me and said, "Really?, wow my kid was just learning to count in kindergarten and I am not even sure that she's learning multiplication yet and she's in third "

I replied that my daughter is a special little girl. But what I was really thinking. Lady, if you don't know if multiplication is or is not a part of your kid's curriculum you're not that engaged.

My daughter is smart for sure, but she's no super genius. The difference between my daughter and that other parent's daughter is that my wife and I take the time to teach her and practice with her. We never let the limits of society dictate what she should be learning, especially if the limits are set low to make sure Johnny's self esteem remains high. We let our daughter's interest dictate if she will move ahead of the class. Nothing more, nothing less.

Similarly, I was recently reading about a smart little 12 year old boy in the UK who's a problogger making $500/month talking about technology. His blog is called Techzi Technology. Gadgets. Internet. And Breaking News by a 12 year old kid. The kid can write.

This kid obviously has parents who doesn't let society norms dictate what he should and should not be striving for or achieving. Blog on young man.

Conservative Kids Prefer Sponge Bob to Katie Couric

Yesterday, I was out with my 14 year old boy, who is a freshman at a local Catholic HS. Over a slice of NY Style Pizza, I asked him if he was worried about terrorism.

In his typical one word style he said, "no". He has never shown any interest in the news.

I told him that when I was growing up near NYC, I was afraid of the Russians.

One word "why?"

I explained that they had nukes pointed at our biggest cities and NYC was a primary target. I told him that we had air raid drills at our elementary school. I explained that they were like fire drills except we didn't go outside. We went into the hallway and sat down against the wall and put our heads down.

I told him that I had trouble sleeping at night thinking about those evil Russians. And I explained that it is OK to be concerned about terrorism and if he wanted to talk about it to just let me know.

He looked around and around. He glanced up at the TV. Fox news was on with a breaking story about an avalanche in Colorado. The he looked back at me and he said, "Parmesan Cheese?"

Well two words. That's a start.

My son sleeps like a champ. He lives in a cocoon.

You'd think that this generation would be over informed, not under informed. Then it hit me. I watched the news every night as a young kid. The local NYC CBS News with Jim Jensen followed by the national news with Walter Cronkite. I watch it because it was the only thing on TV around dinner time and that's what my parents watched. In the 1970's there were 4 channels not 500 and three of the four carried the news. I'm sure I would have skipped the depressing news (murder, fire, terror, sports and weather day after day) if we had an extra TV with sports and cartoons on 24/7.

Anyway, my conversation inspired me to watch the movie United 93 this morning from 6am to 8am. I still have trouble sleeping. We received the movie for free as part of a fundraising campaign before the last election. I have thought about watching it several times over the last 2 months, but could not bring myself to watch it until this morning. It was powerful.

I know all that there are theories that the United 93 was shot down by F16s, but I prefer the American Hero story theory depicted in this film. Regardless of which theory you think is true, I am not sure how this story (and all 9/11 stories) have not galvanized the right and left to work together. How can Murtha, Pelosi, Ms. Clinton, John Kerry, Harry Reid and the bloated Teddy put their own quest for power and money ahead of a united stance.

But the question I am asking here is; How do you teach your conservative kids and liberal minded kids about terrorism?

Radical Islam is teaching hate in their primary schools. They teach their young to hate Jews and all other religions. To hate Americans. Then it gets even crazier. They teach them to hate the other Muslims that do not follow their particular brand of radical Islam. They teach them to revere martyrs. Glenn Beck had a disturbing story about this on his TV show.

We should not teach our kids to hate, but we should make sure that they are aware that their world is dangerous and is changing. Right? I think that my 14 year old is old enough to watch United 93, so I am going to ask him to watch it with me. Ignorance is not always bliss.

Oh got to go. My son needs to get on the computer to watch some silly videos on YouTube.

In a statement following Gerald Ford's death, his wife Betty said that "His life was filled with love of God, his family and his country,"

Are you teaching your kids the love of God, family and country? I would suspect that many families prioritize God and family, but what about country? I would suspect that many families would prioritize God, Family and Sports.

I think that there is an important element missing in God, Family, Country.... Self. I do not think that you can fully love God, Family or Country if you do not love yourself.

The theme of General MacArthur's farewell speech was Duty, Honor and Love of Country. This speaks to self element.

Every night when I put my kids to bed, we say prayers. We start each prayer with Hi God, Hi Jesus, thanks for the great day. Then we pray for more specific things relevant to that particular day. For the last several years we have been including thoughts about the troops protecting us. And we always end each prayer by asking God to please Bless America.

Dad, why do you think that Democrats are pro-abortion but against the death penalty, while Republicans are pro-life but for the death penalty?

Why do you think that Democrats are for helping the poor and disadvantaged but against a war that liberates such people; while Republicans, conversely, are for self-sufficiency in people but for a war that will help people who have demonstrated little ambition, courage or wherewithal to help themselves?

Why do you think that Democrats are for a perverted definition of the separation of church and state and want desperately to rid this country of God, but ultra protective of all the things that God has given us, while Republicans are for keeping our moral compass pointing reverently toward a higher power, while exploiting all the gifts that God has given us?

It all has to do with power and money. Republicans are for X, so Democrats must hate X (with a fervent venomous passion). Democrats are pro-y, so Republicans must be anti-Y. It doesn't matter what X or Y is.

OK Dad, than something doesn't make sense. You said awhile back that Republicans are pro-big business, so by your theory Democrats must be anti-big business.

Generally that is true, Honey.

OK then, why do you think that the media, who is owned by big big business (Time Warner, Disney, Viacom), has such a liberal bent? You'd think that they would have a fiduciary responsibility to their stockholders to be right leaning toward policy makers that would pass laws that would benefit them.

The year was 1976.

Presidential Candidate Jimmy Carter admitted in a Playboy Magazine interview that he’d looked at a lot of women with lust in his heart.

Renee Richards was barred from competing in the US Open because she was a he.

Liz Taylor had her sixth divorce, if you count Richard Burton twice.

It was not easy to raise a conservative red state kid back then either.

But that year was special. Tall ships filled New Your Harbor to celebrate the nation’s 200th birthday, the Viking probe landed on Mars. And I beat my dad in a sporting event for the first time.

My dad was a great collegiate athlete. He was fast. He was tall, 6 foot 5. He could jump. He had confidence. He was competitive. And he never ever let me win, no matter what the game or the sport was. He would always let me get close to victory so I would thirst for it. But he always won. It was frustrating. But it made me more determined to practice.

Then on a municipal tennis court, in the blue state of New Jersey, on a sunny but brisk and windy March day, with my red stripped tube socks pulled up to my knees and my big 70’s hair, I beat him. I beat my dad in a six set match of tennis in a tie-breaker set. It was the greatest feeling in the world. I remember it like it was 30 minutes ago not 30 years ago.

The point: Real achievement is what builds self esteem. Not telling Johnny how great he is at something he isn’t. Kids are smart. They know where they stand and you can’t fool them with fake praise.

Furthermore, overcoming failure builds character and fuels passion to work harder or think smarter. Or failure guides kids to other activities where they can have meaningful self-fulfilling achievement.

The liberal world where kids do not get grades in school or Little Leagues do not allow scoring in T-ball games because some pot smoking ex-hippie psychologist says it will hurt a kids self-esteem is counterproductive. We are molding a bunch of nambie-pambie kids who’ll have a tough time coping in the real cruel world once their mommies and daddies are not around to protect them.

So I say, beat your children. Beat them until they can confidently beat you.

Hey Teddy, I heard this Elvis song on radio today (listen). Maybe you've heard it before. It was released in 1969. Then again in 1969, you might have been up to your ears in hot water in Chappaquiddick. Anyway, in case you missed it, it was written by Mac Davis and was made popular by the King.

Ted, isn't amazing that this song is as true today as it was in 1969? Maybe sad would have been a better word than amazing. Earth to Blue State Ted Kennedy, your bloated social programs are not working. Never have and never will. And Ted, next time you dine with Jesse, ask him how he sleeps at night, knowing he has done more to perpetuate the problems in inner cities than help.

We need new leadership in these Blue States and Blue Cities. We need to teach the next generation of urban kids differently. They need conservative values for a change. Can I get an amen Bill Cosby

Pay Kids To Be Conservative

What separates a budding conservative from a budding liberal? Many factors influence whether a kid will grow up to be conservative minded or liberal minded including a parent's bias, living environment, a teacher's influence, the influence of friends, socio-economic factors, race, and religion to name a few. We will eventually explore all of these things in this blog, but a good detective always follows the money first. A very important factor is how money is earned, saved and spent.

Note that the amount of money a person earns or has is not a factor. Case in point, super liberals George Soros and George Clooney have plenty of it. Hey, maybe it is a George thing, George W. Bush spends money like a liberal. Conservative parents take note do not name your kid George. And of course there are those who make considerable amount of money just being liberal. Jessee Jackson and Ted Kennedy are making huge profits from spewing liberalism.

Conservatives have a healthy respect for what it takes to earn money. The main ingredients include hard work, risk reward and practical money management. To be clear, many Liberals are hard working but many are downright lazy. These lazy libs prefer scheming ways to get additional money or services instead of seeking additional work or improving their skills. They see the world as unfair and seek a redistribution of wealth from the hardworking rich. Two important notes:

Not all poor people are lazy. My grandparents worked a 20 acre farm from dawn to dusk everyday. They were never rich. They also never ever looked for a handout.
Also, there are many Republican Fat Cats who do their fair share of scheming and defrauding.

So how do you teach your kids to respect money: This is what I do:

Give a weekly allowance. I give $1 per year of age per week. (14 year old gets $14/week) Your kids will jump at it if you include healthcare and a vacation.
Give your kids age appropriate chores. I tie allowance to chores. There are opposing opinions on this. Many say that kids should do their part just because they are a part of the family. I agree but what then are you going to tie allowance to?
Very important. Performance on homework each week should be factored in. If they're not doing their homework, they won't be out spending money anyway. Right?
Every week without fail, gather around the kitchen table, review the work week and pay the allowance. (You get paid on a consistent basis right?) Compliment a kid for a great work week. Tell them how proud you are of their strong work ethic and good positive attitude. If your kid did not work hard, tell them that you expect better next week and dock their pay. Regardless of age. The world is a cruel place let them learn it now.
Divide the allowance into two parts. Spend and Long term Save (The College Tax). My 14 year old is required to put $5 into college and has $9 to spend. I require that my kids save money for college spending money. I call it College Social Life Security. I plan to pay for tuition. Let them pay for the beer and pizza. I have considered adding a religious or charitable element to this plan but I have not yet. I think that charity needs to come from the heart not imposed.
At the gathering around the kitchen table, it is important to count out the money and hand it to them. No IOUs. It is also important to count out the docked money too. Show them what they lost.
Give your kids a chance to earn extra money with extra jobs like weeding or raking or washing the car. Don't forget to collect the College Social Life Security of 30% for this too.
Mandate that 30% of all gift money (birthdays, graduations, Christmas, etc) goes into their long term savings. (College Social Life Security)
I have also set up a car savings account at the local bank for each of my kids. We give the kids the option to put some of their spending money into this account to save for a car. If they do, I match it dollar for dollar, like an employer matchs a 401K. Unlike college this is a voluntary account. They can ride thier bikes as long as they like.
I also think that it is important to show your kids the power of the stock market. Let them buy some Disney, Exxon or Procter & Gamble stock. And help them follow their investments on quicken.com or similar.
Set guidelines on what you will pay for and what items you won't. Resist the urge to give your kids money for things that they should be buying with their own money. Kids will show spending restraint when it is their cash going into a video game or to buy that 10th Barbie.
Also, resist the urge to give allowance that does not match the effort. This is counter productive. Your kids need to feel the pain of wanting and not getting immediate satisfaction. Plus the more money they have, the more junk they will buy and the more junk that you need to constantly clean up.
Resist the urge to buy things for your kids with the promise that they will pay you at allowance time. You are not VISA or MasterCard.
There are other plans on the web on teaching your kids money management. Pick one that works for you and your family situation.

I believe that this is helping my kids understand the connection between hard work with a positive attitude and making money. It is helping them to understand money management. It introduces them to the bank and to the stock market. It introduces them to the concept of social security (The college spending fund that they pay into and can get at a certain age). It introduces them to long term savings. This plan is rich with learning and life skills. Your local liberal school is not going to teach this. Besides the cost is minimal because you know that you are probably doling out the money anyway.

Conservative parents should be careful about what they read to their children.

Outside of San Francisco, long before Nancy Pelosi and her liberal friends could create a safety net for those who lack self-sufficiency skills, a poor woodcutter lived with his wife and his two children, Hansel and Gretel. You know the story, hard times hit the forest and the woodcutter could no longer provide for his second wife and kids. (The fractured family has long been a staple in liberal stories).

The woodcutter's (pro-abortion) second wife had the answer to their problems and together they schemed to take the children out into the forest and leave them.

The woodcutter hesitated knowing that the kids would likely starve or be torn apart by wild animals, but he eventually consented to the femi-nazi second wife. (Are you thinking what I am thinking, wild animals, BBQ. Were they vegetarians or PETA members?)

The two children heard their step-mother’s plans. (Where was the ACLU to protect the parents from this legal wiretapping). When the old folks were asleep, Hansel crept outside and stuffed his pockets with white pebbles. (Self reliance a small redeeming factor to the story)

The parents followed through on the plan, but Hansel foiled the plan by dropping the white pebbles to mark the way back home. The resourceful children returned home unscathed.

This did not sit well with the wife and she again convinced the husband that banishing the kids to the forest was the only alternative. (Adoption is never an alternative for these liberals.) That night they devised a plan to take the kids even deeper into the forest the next day.

The children again heard the conversation and Hansel planned to once again get pebbles to mark the path. Unfortunately, on that very night the step-mother locked them in their room. Hansel instead planned to crumbled his meager piece of bread and use the crumbs to mark the path. This plan backfired when the birds, that the woodcutter would not hunt, ate the breadcrumbs.

The kids became hopelessly lost. Luckily, they happened upon a house made of gingerbread and windows made of clear sugar. The kids broke pieces of bread and sugar off the house. (This is the part of the story where we teach our kids that it is ok to steal and vandalize).

Then the kids heard a soft voice cried from inside the house, “Who's eating at my house?" The children answered: "The wind, the wind" (While we are at it, let’s teach our kids to lie. I guess the apple didn't fall far from the woodcutter’s tree.)

The soft voice belonged to a half blind old women who pretended (more lying) to be kind and invited them into the house. (I concede that this teaches kids not to take candy from strangers, but there are better ways to do that.) Once the kids fell into the trap, the old women imprisoned the boy and made a slave out of the girl. FOr weeks, the wicked witch made Gretel fetch food and cook meals to fatten up her brother.

Each day, the blind witch tried to determine Hansel’s weight by checking how fat his fingers were. (Go to JefferyDahmerRecipes.com) For weeks Hansel fooled the blind witch by offering her a skinny chicken bone instead of his finger. She eventually became impatient and decided it was time for the feast whether Hensel was plump or not. (A nice lesson on quitting before you reach your goal).

She then asked Gretel to light the oven. Gretel pretended to have trouble. (More lying.) The witch grew frustrated and pushed Gretel to the side to show her how to light it. Gretel then pushed the old witch into the oven where she met her demise in a horribly cruel death. (Let’s add murder to the list of offenses. OK this murder was justifiable but do we really need to read this to a 6 year old, even if it is a good introduction to the death penalty)

Gretel, released Hansel and after much rejoicing they went into the witch's house, where they found chests full of jewels. These little criminals, of course, filled their pockets with jewels. (A nice subtle lesson on redistributing wealth from the rich to the poor).

The kids eventually found their way home where their happy father greeted them. Instead of getting good ol’ dad indicted for child endangerment and attempted murder, they lavished him with jewels. (Hey why not give him a book deal and a TV show called If I really did try to abandon my kids)

While the kids were out in the forest surviving, dad gets a lawyer and divorces the step-mother. (Hey why not end the story with a reminder that divorce is a great solution to problems.) Let’s hope this woodcutter goes to eharmony.com to find his third wife.
